About this item: Against a background of stark black, colorful stripes and geometric patterns are diligently incorporated into the body of this sling from India. UMBVS Desert Weavers of India presents this sling as part of an effort to promote the welfare of local artisans. They weave the bag by hand from cotton on a traditional loom. About our Artist: An NGO of traditional weavers, UMBVS successfully changed the centuries' old tradition that forbade women from working on the loom. They started with a small group of 30 weavers, each equipped with traditional weaving techniques and personal skills, which have been handed-down from generation to generation. Now the organization has spread to 90 villages, supporting more than 170 families. The main weaving technique is done on a pit loom....
